Hafiz
A 14th-century Persian poet. I don't know that I've read any complete poems of his, but here are several quotes I like (translation by Daniel Ladinsky).
- God courts us with the beauty of this world.
- How did the rose ever open its heart and give to the world all of its beauty? It felt the encouragement of light against its being...
- There are so many gifts still unopened from your birthday, there are so many hand-crafted presents that have been sent to your door by God. The Beloved does not mind repeating, "Everything I have is also yours."
- I wish I could put the swaying splendor of the fields into words so that you could hold Truth against your body and dance.
