The main level has a split-level step down, past the kitchen and dining area (decorated with a Serrano posterboard of a gigantic candelabra cactus tree), to my company room, which has a fireplace with my grandmother's lovely bevelled mirror hanging above it and my Asian screen: a golden-sunlit balcony, with women sitting and talking, playing instruments, playing "keep the feather in the air" with fans, and generally enjoying the beautiful day. The other side of my screen shows herons and willows, riverside. The company room also has comfy chairs for sitting and talking, my CD player, my collection of games, and a sliding door to my deck, looking out on my cherry tree and backyard.
The company room also has my unread books. My bedroom has a built-in bookcase for the "keepers", so my free-standing bookcase is no longer so overflowing. Upstairs in the fiction shelves you would
find Richard Adams (Watership Down, Shardik), Margaret Atwood, Ray Bradbury, Lois McMaster Bujold,
Edgar Rice Burroughs, C.J. Cherryh,
Brenda Clough (my favorite panelist at
SF cons!), Dick Francis, Goethe,
Kathleen Ann Goonan, Georgette Heyer, Tanith Lee,
Lucy Maud Montgomery, Haruki Murakami, Chaim Potok, Dorothy Sayers, Josephine Tey, JRR Tolkien,
Kate Wilhelm, Connie Willis, and others (at some point I'll add in specific links to
more authors).
If you can tear yourself away
from my books, scattered about you may notice my old, apparently broken (from the move?) stereo (albums include Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds); my tape deck in the basement (old tapes include the Roches (misc) and Jazz Butcher's Bloody Nonsense) and my CD player (CDs include Deep Forest and Marillion).
You may figure out one of my favorite holidays
if you catch sight of my collection of
eggs. Other collections include my grandmother's teacups.
The very last thing you'll see on your way out is my Cow Philosophy poster. I won't attempt to reproduce the Gary Larson picture here, but you can read what it says in my favorite quotes.
